Jokowi will Inaugurate a House for Flash Flood Victims in Papua



President Joko Widodo is scheduled to inaugurate a relief house for victims of flash floods which was built in the Doyo area, Jayapura Regency, Papua.

Minister of Social Affairs Specialist for Social Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Benhur Tomi Mano, said that one of Joko Widodo's agenda during his visit to Jayapura was to inaugurate 76 housing units built for victims of flash floods in 2019.

The residential area is built on an area of about two hectares. The settlement is equipped with chicken coops, pigs and a market for buying and selling which can also be used as a meeting place.

"Currently, the settlement is being carried out before being inaugurated by President Jokowi, who is scheduled to arrive in Jayapura on August 31," said Tomi Mano, as quoted by Antara.

The former mayor of Jayapura admitted that various preparations were being carried out before the inauguration of the house and its supporting facilities. The funds allocated to build houses and other supporting facilities in the area reached around Rp. 12.6 billion, the management of which was handed over to the Alom 76 Cooperative, explained Tomi Mano.

Flash floods and landslides not only occurred in Jayapura Regency but also in Jayapura City which caused 112 people died and 94 people were declared missing. Losses and damage due to the natural disaster reached around Rp 454 billion.
