The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has started the construction of the Merauke Diocese building on Jalan Raya Mandala, Merauke Regency, Papua Province. Ceremonially, the construction of spiritual infrastructure was marked by the groundbreaking procession on Sunday (26/6/2022) with the target of completing construction by the end of December 2022.
"It is hoped that the construction of the Merauke Diocese building can increase efforts to form a mental life together to create a cultured, civilized environment and uphold moral values so as to make a positive contribution to the achievement of the President's mission to build superior human resources towards advanced Indonesia," said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono. The construction of the Merauke Diocese building was sourced from the APBN worth Rp. 23.28 billion with the implementation of the contract from 10 June to 29 December 2022. The budget was used to build a 2-storey building with a building area of 1,946 m2 on an area of 3,989 m2.
The scope of work for the construction of the 1st floor consists of 18 rooms, namely the lobby, secretariat room, staff room, vik general's room, panel room, library, stationery room, canteen, toilet, curia meeting room, bishop's room, economist room, chapel room, spiritual shop, warehouse, ramp, basement, and janitor. Furthermore, the 2nd Floor consists of 4 rooms, namely the tribunal room, warehouse, panel room, and commission room.
Head of the Papua Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center Corneles Sagrim hopes that the construction of the Merauke Archdiocese building can help improve services to the people.
"We are also working hard so that the construction of the diocese building is carried out by taking into account the 3 T aspects (right quality, right time and right quality)," added Corneles Sagrim.
The Archbishop of Merauke Mgr Petrus Canisius Mandagi expressed his gratitude to the Government through the Ministry of PUPR for the realization of the construction of the diocese building in Merauke.
"We have been waiting for the construction of the diocese building for a long time to improve services to the community," said Archbishop Petrus Canisius Mandagi of Merauke.
