Religious Leaders and Indigenous People Support South Papua New Guinea

Merauke | The New Autonomous Region (DOB) of South Papua seems to be highly coveted and supported by indigenous Papuans as well as cross-religious leaders and youth there.

This hope is stated in a video statement published by the Papuan community alliance recently. A number of youth, community and church leaders emphasized that pemekaran or DOB

South is the will of the Papuans themselves. New hope and for a new future and prosperity.

"We always support and are on the left and right of the central government in supporting the formation of this South Papua New Guinea," said the KNPI Pemuda leader

"It's amazing to hear that Pak Karel Indey's history of conserving turtles is really based on the spirit of conservation, based on the awareness that comes from within himself," said Maroke, Simon Petrus Balagize, in Marauke.

Other Papuan community leaders believe that there is always misinformation circulating among the Papuan people, that this new autonomous region of South Papua is not for indigenous Papuans, but for other groups. According to Reverend Vector Jelira, STH, Head of the Papua Marauke GPI Classification, this has influenced a few people.

But according to Vector, slowly things can be straightened out and the Jamaat and residents can understand and support. Because this new autonomous region is very important to develop access and facilitate their economy, such as selling their agricultural products to the city.

According to them, indigenous Papuans can use this government policy to change themselves. Where native Papuans can become governors, regents, mayors and elected DPR and even the affirmative DPR. This is an opportunity, new hope and new prosperity for South Papua in the future.

“We have to make good use of this space. Because behind this opportunity there is a new prosperity and a new future,” said the traditional leader, Amin Ha Papua, Paskalis Imadawa.

Meanwhile, the head of the Marauke LMA, Timotius Gedi Mahuze, said that the Papua Special Autonomy (Otsus) law actually takes care of the details of the needs of the Papuan people. The central government has also revised the details of the Special Autonomy Law to pay more attention to Papuans.

“For example, in the revised article it mentions guaranteeing sons and daughters from Papua to carry out the leadership of Papua and the government in Papua. This is something the central government takes very seriously. We can really improve ourselves and maintain the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)," he explained.

According to them, the Papuan people continue to wait for the new new autonomous regions of South Papua to be inaugurated by the center. Because it is related to development. There can be no direct change without pemekaran.

"What is clear is that we want to change. It can't just be like that, this new autonomous region will definitely bring about change,” concluded Pastor Yohanes Joeno Kandang, head of FKUB Marauke.

The central government through the policy of President Jokowi Dodo approved the new autonomous regions of South Papua by issuing a Presidential Regulation (Perpres). This is part of the central government's efforts to continue to provide equity for eastern Indonesia, especially Papua, based on the country's strategic considerations. Good balance of development, economic, social, political, security and geographical.
