Called Unethical to Bring Aspirations of Rejection of DOB to the Center, Timothy Murib Was Forced to Resign from Chair of the MRP

The maneuvers that have been carried out by the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) under the leadership of Timotius Murib are slowly but surely starting to be exposed to the public because it is increasingly showing partiality, especially with regard to policy issues for the New Autonomous Region (DOB). After it was discovered that there were divisions within the MRP, Timothy Murib had been indicated from the start to use his authority to perpetuate his interests. One of them is rejecting the central government's policy with a number of emotional reasons to ignite the sentiments of the Papuan people towards the government.

Urge to resign because of defaming the MRP Lembaga

The impact that emerged from Timothy Murib's behavior towards the MRP appeared gradually. Anim Ha Indigenous Youth Leader, Marius Kateng stated that the Chairman of the MRP, Timothy Murib, must comply with Perdasus No. 3 of 2008 concerning the implementation of the Rights and Obligations of the MRP. According to him, if you can't comply, it's better to resign from the Chair of the MRP because under the leadership of Timothy Murib, the MRP has done nothing, in fact, the chairman of the MRP has polluted the representative institutions of the Papuan people.

Marius Kateng explicitly stated that it was very unethical when the Chair of the MRP and several elements within the MRP brought the aspirations of rejecting the expansion of new autonomous regions and special autonomy to the center. The reason is that the people of Anim Ha really want the expansion of the province of South Papua, and the Chairperson of the MRP does not have the authority to prohibit this aspiration. He hoped that the chairman of the MRP would do the right thing, not do anything silly and unethical that would embarrass himself. The aspiration to support pemekaran has long been expressed. The Anim Ha Youth will continue to oversee the aspirations of the formation of the South Papua Province.

He also said that the aspirations of Osus and the expansion of new autonomous regions were final. As the young generation of Papua, we must support and guard these aspirations for the welfare of the Papuan people.

MRP Support for DOB Policy

After 6 MRP representatives met President Joko Widodo at the Bogor Palace, they expressed their support for the DOB a few days ago. The statement related to support was reiterated by a member of the MRP, Herman Toku. He gave high appreciation to the central government, DPR RI, as well as the TNI and Polri regarding the policy of establishing new autonomous regions in Papua. The establishment of new autonomous regions is one of the state policies that must be fully supported. He also appreciated President Jokowi who had accepted the aspirations of the Papuan Indigenous People (OAP) and admitted that he was touched by President Jokowi's great attention to OAP. In addition, Herman Yoku also regrets the attitude of irresponsible elements who divide through provocations that the Papuan people are not noticed by the state.

This attitude of disappointment could be directed at his fellow institution, Timothy Murib, who until now continues to insist that the aspirations of the Papuan people tend to reject the new autonomous region policy plan without being able to show the data or basis used. Timothy Murib is said to have used his authority for his own interests, which is far from the provisions of the MRP's rights and obligations as a representative institution for the Papuan people.

Continuously Flowing Support for DOB Policy

Until now, a number of figures and parties continue to provide statements of support for the new autonomous regions policy. Broadly speaking, they welcome the policy as an effort by the central government to advance the Papua region.

Papuan political observer and former expert staff of the Director General of Regional Autonomy of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Frans Maniagasi, said that the establishment of new autonomous regions in Papua was aimed at accelerating development and expanding the reach of bureaucratic services to the community. The expansion does not only focus on accelerating development and shortening the span of government control, but also functions so that there is synergy towards the existence and sustainability of the local value paradigm. In addition, it also raises the dignity of OAP by taking into account political, administrative, legal aspects, socio-cultural unity, readiness of human resources, basic infrastructure, economic capacity, future developments, and/or aspirations of the Papuan people.

In line with the statement from Frans Maniagasi, Chairman of the Sentani Tribal Customary Council (DAS), Origenes Kaway, assessed that the plan of the central government and the Indonesian House of Representatives to expand Papua to form a new autonomous region was an answer from God for which we should all be grateful. The gravity of Papua's geographical conditions makes there are still many areas in the mountains and coasts that have not been touched by development. The existence of pros and cons in the community is a common thing, but there should not be individuals who play for personal political interests. If the politics is the people's economic welfare, then new autonomous regions are the solution. It is believed that the expansion of Papua and the formation of new autonomous regions will create job opportunities.

Meanwhile, a youth leader in Jayapura Regency, Jhon Maurids Suebu, admitted that he strongly agrees with the plan for the expansion of Papua to form a new autonomous region. According to him, the Papua New Guinea is part of the Papua Special Autonomy so that the management space for the community will be wide open.

The support for the new autonomous regions is so massive, both from within the Papuan community and outside Papua. Timotius Murib's claim that the aspiration of rejecting the new autonomous regions to become a majority has clearly tarnished the name of the MRP as a representative institution for the Papuan people. It is appropriate for the MRP to conduct an evaluation of the people in it, including reviewing the existence of Timothy Murib on the progress of the institution that should be a home with the Papuan people.
