Thousands of Mimika Residents Support the Expansion of Central Papua Province



Thousands of residents of Mimika Regency, Papua took to the streets to hold an action to support the establishment of a new autonomous region (DOB) for Central Papua. The crowd also emphasized that the Timika area would become the capital of the Papua New Guinea, the crowd moved around 10.30 WIT from Timika City to the Mimika Regent's Office. Each representative from the tribe/harmony then gave a statement of support for the establishment of the Central Papua Province.

There were 18 representatives from each tribe in Timika who held a declaration of support for the Province of Central Papua.

"This action to take to the streets is a form of support for the government for the formation of the new autonomous regions of Central Papua with its capital in Timika," said the Head of the Coordinator for the Declaration of Action, Karel Kum.

Karel claimed that the Amungme and Kamoro tribes agreed to place the capital city of Central Papua Province in Timika. He asked all parties to support and accept this plan.

"We accept the province of Central Papua, in Timika the price is fixed. Anyone who refuses to eat will be against the rules," he stressed.

There are three points in the statement of the United Mimika Declaration read by Yance Yohanis Boyau as Chair of the Forum Caring for the Expansion of New Guinea, namely first, supporting efforts to resolve conflicts in Papua in a dignified manner in order to achieve a Peaceful Papua.

Second, to encourage the resolution of the Papua problem by reconciliation and restitution towards a safe Papua. And third, support the implementation of the Special Autonomy Law number 2 of 2021 and the plan to expand the new autonomous regions towards a peaceful, secure and prosperous Papua.

The declaration activity was attended by more than three thousand Mimika people from various indigenous tribes in Kab. Mimika. The event was also attended by traditional leaders from Mimika Regency such as Yance Yohanis Boyau (Chairman of the Pemekaran Care Forum), Toro Koyame (Action Coordinator), Karel Kum (Lemasa Figure), Lazarus Kobogau (Moni Tribe Community Leader).

Didie MS (Unified Java Family Harmony Figure / KKJB), Zwingly Demena (Jayapura Extended Family Association) , Ristam Kupak (Representative of Fak-Fak Leaders), Lalu Wijaya (Chairman of the Lombok Community Association), Frans Tumuka (Chairman of Yayasam Yuamako), Yulius Hagabal (Head of the Damal Tribe).
