BI Papua prepares Rp1.33 trillion in cash during Ramadan fasting

The Bank Indonesia (BI) Papua Representative Office has prepared Rp1.33 trillion in cash during the fasting month of Ramadan in 2022 to meet the needs of the community.

"The prepared cash has increased by 15.65 percent compared to 2021 which amounted to Rp1.15 trillion," said BI Papua Representative Head Juli Budi Winantya in Jayapura, Tuesday.

He explained that the increased need for cash is in line with continued economic growth and activity, which is expected to increase in line with the COVID-19 pandemic which is getting under control.

BI continues to coordinate with banks and related institutions to provide cash and non-cash payment system services to support smooth transactions in the community during Ramadan.

In addition, BI also appealed to the public to exchange money in banks and cash around Bank Indonesia.

Juli added that people who want to exchange money can go to the BI mobile cash register to avoid crowds of people or make an exchange order in advance through the PINTAR application (https://pintar.bi.go.id).

In addition, BI urges the public to prioritize non-cash instruments in conducting transactions, including QRIS, electronic money, and digital banking that can minimize physical contact in transactions and behave wisely in shopping.

"Shopping wisely according to need, saving money, and caring for the Rupiah to encourage public awareness to love, be proud, and understand the rupiah (CBP) which is reflected in this year's Eid theme, namely the Veranda of Rupiah Ramadhan, spending wisely and taking care of the rupiah," said Juli.
