Three regents in the mountainous region of Papua agreed to seek to accelerate peace in order to end the conflict between the people of Ilekma and the people of Wouma.
Dandim 1702/Jwy Lt. Col. Inf. AB Situmeang, in a statement received by ANTARA on Wednesday, said the coordination meeting for peace settlement between residents was attended by the Regent of Jayawijaya Regency, Jhon R Banua, the Regent of Lanny Jaya Befa Jigibalom, and the Regent of Nduga Wentius Nimiangge.
The meeting was also attended by the Dirintelkam of the Papuan Police, Kombes Pol. Tigor Hutapea, Director of the Criminal Investigation of the Papuan Police, Kombes Pol. Faizal Ramadani, Dansat Brimob of the Papuan Police, Kombes Pol. Budi, Dandim 1702/JWY, Head of Jayawijaya Police AKBP Muh Safeei and Danyonif 756/WMS Lt. Col. Inf. Tommy Yudistio.
In the meeting, the three Regents agreed to end the inter-community conflict by making various efforts to reconcile the two groups so that it is hoped that there will be no more ongoing conflicts.
The three regents also hoped that the security forces from the TNI/Polri would not provide space and opportunity for the community to conflict in order to avoid conflicts like some time ago which had resulted in dozens of people being injured.
Dandim 1702/Jayawijaya Lt. Col. Inf. Arif Budi Situmeang appealed to the public not to believe easily and be provoked by issues that developed before they were confirmed.
“We must urge the public not to be provoked by negative issues spread by parties who want to exacerbate this conflict. Especially for clashing the community with the security forces," he added.
Dandim explained, the presence of security forces from the TNI/Polri to prevent conflicts and assist local governments in solving existing problems.
"We hope that peace will soon be carried out according to custom so that this conflict can end soon," hoped the Dandim.
After the coordination meeting, the Regents together with elements of the TNI/Polri again held meetings with the two community groups and provided assistance in the form of basic necessities as a form of concern for the regional government together with the TNI/Polri.
The Regent of Nduga Regency, Wentius Nimiangge, said that his party together with the Regent of Jayawijaya and Regent of Lanny Jaya had agreed to make peace.
"I hope that starting today there will be no more mass movements. It's time for us to sit down together to discuss this peace," he said.
Until now, the joint security forces of the TNI/Polri have continued to isolate people from both sides to prevent further conflicts from occurring.
