Sea Highway Forms Regional Connectivity Concern



The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Sea Transportation continues to pay attention to regional connectivity in Indonesia, especially eastern Indonesia.

This Sea Highway is the flagship program of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, which aims to strengthen Indonesia's position as the world's maritime axis. The benefit is to reduce the price gap between the western and eastern regions of Indonesia, which is caused by the uncertainty of the availability of goods.

The sea highway itself is the provision of a logistics distribution system using large ships that connect ports on the main route or main route. The main routes of the sea toll road are Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, Jakarta, Surabaya, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku to Papua, while the distribution to other islands is using smaller ships than the main line fleet. institutions only, but jointly owned by ministries, institutions as well as local governments and communities that must work together so that the sea highway program can run optimally.

The existence of the sea highway program continues to receive support and is needed by people in disadvantaged, remote, outermost and border areas. They have experienced firsthand the benefits and the existence of the sea highway in reducing price disparities and connectivity between regions in Indonesia.
 
For Maluku Province, the Ministry of Transportation has allocated 22 pioneer ships and three marine highway ships out of a total of 158 ships owned by the Ministry of Transportation to serve the people in Maluku Province.
 
In addition to a number of regencies/cities, now the West Seram Regency has a sea toll road for logistics loading and marine products and agricultural products to be sold to Java Island. With this sea highway, all marine product commodities, all marine product commodities and agricultural products such as fish, cloves, nutmeg, copra and other agricultural products or logistics can be transported through Hatu Port, Piru City, West Seram District.

With the sea highway in West Seram Regency, synergy and cooperation with all stakeholders, both local governments, ministries, institutions and operators to implement the sea toll program to achieve great results and benefits for the people of Indonesia, especially in West Seram Regency.
