Andika to Papua after the TNI-KKB Shootout: Internal Evaluation

The Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, General Andika Perkasa, conducted an internal evaluation when he visited Papua. It is known, in the last few days there have been attacks by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) against members of the TNI.

"Internal evaluation," said Kapuspen TNI Major General Praantara Santosa when contacted by CNNIndonesia.com.

Prantara has not detailed what aspects Andika evaluated while in Papua. He also has not disclosed the agenda that Andika will do while he is there.

TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa left for Papua since Thursday (28/1). This was conveyed by the Chairperson of Commission I of the DPR, Meutya Hafid.

Meutya said Andika contacted her because she could not attend the meeting because she had to go to Papua.

Member of Commission I of the DPR, Tubagus Hasanuddin, also said the same thing. He said that Andika was not present at the meeting because she left for Papua to respond to the incident of a TNI member who was killed in a shootout with the Papuan KKB in Gome District, Puncak Regency.

The shooting incident with the Papuan KKB in question occurred in Gome District on Wednesday (26/1) and Thursday (27/1). Three TNI soldiers were reportedly killed in the shootout.

Danrem 173 Brigadier General Taufan Gestoro confirmed that the three victims were members of Infantry Battalion R 408/SBH who are members of the Security Task Force for Vulnerable Areas.

KKB has claimed responsibility for the incident. TNPB-OPM said the attack on the TNI was carried out by the group led by Numbuk Telenggen.

"Numbuk Telenggen with his troops attacked the Koramil post in the Gome Tanah Merah district, Puncak Ilaga Regency. In this attack two TNI members were shot," said TNPB-OPM Spokesperson, Sabby Sembom.
