Government Builds Depapre Port in Papua, William Wandik: To Boost Community Economy


Member of Commission V DPR RI William Wandik said his party hoped that the development of the Depapre Port in Jayapura district which is currently being initiated by the government could bring prosperity in Papua.


Obviously the port is one of the strategic infrastructure elements in Papua. If this port continues to be developed, it will certainly bring prosperity to the people in Papua," he explained when confirmed, Sunday (23/1).

This Democrat Party politician said that since early 2021, the Depapre port has served a new sea toll route connecting the Papua and West Papua regions. So at this time it is also necessary to make efforts to increase the return charge from east to west.

“Everyone knows that Papua has a lot of potential for commodities ranging from fish, seaweed, wood, and so on. If this port is maximized, it will certainly bring tremendous economic benefits in Papua," explained the head of GAMKI.

William Wandik explained that currently efforts are being made to develop infrastructure development in Papua to improve the community's economy. In Papua today, Wandik's words are in the national and world spotlight. This is marked by the construction of a number of infrastructures such as the magnificent and international standard Lukas Enembe Stadium, as well as Sentani Airport in Jayapura which has been developed into an international airport.

"With the addition of this Depapre port development, in the future it will become a Main Port which is expected to stimulate the economy in Jayapura Regency and its surroundings," he explained.

For your information, the Ministry of Transportation is currently building the Depapres Port in Jayapura district. For its realization, currently being built on the land and sea sides in 2015 to 2020, with a total investment of around Rp. 175 billion using the state budget. Land acquisition has been carried out in stages from 2007 to 2013 with a land area of ​​24.83 hectares out of a total of 74 hectares of land required. Reclamation work has also been carried out with an area of ​​about 15.67 hectares.
