Ahead of the closing of 2021, the Indigenous Peoples of the La Pago Region requested that the basic problems in Papua be resolved immediately. Yulius Yikwa in a statement assessed that the problem was a mess involving separatism. (24/12)
“The most basic problem is separatism, these groups are always at odds with the government. So what has happened so far is that Papua seems to have never been at peace,”
Yulius added that problems related to separatism have increasingly attached the stigma that Papua is a conflict-prone area. According to him, it is as if Papua is only being traded by taking advantage of the negative spotlight.
“Just because the point of view about Papua is big because there are separatist groups, that assumption appears. I suspect that Papua is being traded for interests,"
Yulius also said that news regarding evacuations has always been a concern ahead of Christmas celebrations in Papua. He emphasized that the action was merely propaganda carried out by separatist groups, even though Yulius examined if the action occurred and was more due to the existence of separatist groups.
“Every year at the end of the year and Christmas, there will be news about the evacuation, but what we all need to realize is that why did the evacuation happen? the answer is because there is the influence of separatist groups there,”
Yulius as a traditional figure of La Pago also emphasized to the separatist group that it should not appear as if they were victims of an incident, even though these groups were the main perpetrators of misleading. He said that there have been many bad impacts that have occurred only because of the bad actions of separatist groups.
"Don't pretend to be a victim, they (separatist groups) are the perpetrators. Don't sacrifice Papuans, until now many people have suffered just to comply with the wishes of the separatist groups,"
