HEAD OF SAUSAPOR DISTRICT: “LOTS OF PAPUA COMMUNITIES CAN CONTINUE EDUCATION BECAUSE OF OTSUS”

Papua Special Autonomy (Otsus) is a policy of the central government as a form of siding with the Papuan people. The community must not turn a blind eye to the various development achievements made through the Papua Special Autonomy program and budget.

Kristi Yekwam, Head of Sausapor District, explained that the Special Autonomy Law should be seen as a solution for the development of all sectors in Papua and West Papua, but some people only view Otsus in terms of the budget. “This view makes people misjudge the real purpose of the Special Autonomy Law. Because people only focus on the physical of Otsus,” explained Kristi.

On the other hand, continued Kristi, Otsus has helped many people, especially in the education sector or among Papuan students. Many Papuans are able to continue their education because of Otsus.

According to Kristi, the rejection of certain groups against the sustainability of Otsus was caused by provocations from interested parties against people who did not understand the function of Otsus, so that they became affected and joined in supporting the group's issues.

As the Head of the Sausapor District, Kristi invites the public not to be provoked by false reports related to Otsus. "And we also hope that one day they can fully understand the function of the Special Autonomy Law," concluded Kristi.
