Remember, the Youth Pledge Pledge October 28, 1928, was attended by three Papuan youths

The Youth Pledge incident is an acknowledgment of Indonesian youth who pledged to one homeland, one nation and one language.

When the youth oath took place in Jakarta, October 28, 1928, there were three Papuan youths, namely Aitai Karubaba, Abner Ohee and Orpa Pallo.

This was stated by Ali Kabiay, Chairman of the Papuan Indigenous Youth Region II Saireri, Wednesday (27/10/2021).

"The presence of Aitai Karubaba, Abner Ohee and Orpa Pallo clears our doubts as a Papuan people, where we always hear news that there is no representative from Papua during the youth oath pledge on October 28, 1928," said Ali.

He interpreted that in fact the desire of the Papuan people at that time to become part of Indonesia had emerged since the youth oath, October 28, 1928 ago.

Unfortunately, there are still residents who think that the youth oath event was not attended by Papuan youth.

“Many indigenous Papuans did not know that several Papuan youths were present and witnessed the historic event of the youth oath at that time. This is very wrong. Because, in fact, three Papuan youths were also present and took the pledge with youths from other regions,” he explained.

"The story of the involvement of Papuans in the youth oath on October 28, 1928 became a story for generations in the Ohee family in Sentani, one of which was the chairman of the Papuan Red and White Front (BMP), Mr. Ramses Ohee," he said again.

He said, in the past before Indonesia's independence, Papua had become part of the kingdom in the archipelago, namely the Tidore Sultanate.

Easy Generation of Papua Don't Forget History

Ali also said that the knowledge of Papuan youth is related to the history of the youth oath that gave birth to the Indonesian nation, its history is increasingly forgotten.

Whereas three native Papuan youths were present in terms of that historic event that gave birth to the unity and integrity of the youth to establish the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

"In fact, every day there are more and more rumors of twisting facts and lies, as well as deception of mindset and truth to separate Papua from Indonesia," he said again.

The territory of Papua is very broad, so it must be united with an ideology that binds all components of the nation, namely the ideology of Pancasila.

According to him, ideologies that are not in accordance with Pancasila as the noble values of the nation, both the caliphate and the OPM separatists should not exist, because they can damage the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation in Papua.

"As Chair of the Saireri Region II Indigenous Youth, I strongly and continuously reject the separatist ideology that continues to be voiced by anti-Pancasila and NKRI groups, namely KNPB, ULMWP and TPN-OPM," he said.

Therefore, the youth oath is a manifestation of the pioneering effort to raise the dignity of the Papuan people.

The commemoration of the youth oath day in the history of the nation's struggle is a very important historical momentum and an inseparable part of the chain of struggle for the Indonesian nation.

In addition, the youth oath has also provided new motivation for this nation, to fight for its fate and existence as a sovereign nation, and inspire all children of the nation to keep the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia from various disintegration efforts as well as colonialism and imperialism in the era of globalization.

"Youth must be the locomotive of change, especially in today's digital era," he said.

The commemoration of the youth oath day is expected to be a momentum for optimizing the role of youth in contributing to national development, especially in Papua.

“As youth, we reject radical and separatist ideas. Be the young generation of future leaders with the Pancasila ideology," he concluded.
