Pangdam XVIII / Cassowary Major General TNI I Nyoman Cantiasa, S.E., M.Tr.(Han). handed over the red and white flag to the tribal chiefs in the Arfak Mountains Regency (Pegaf) to be hoisted at the Thousand Feet House in the Hink Pegaf district, West Papua, recently.
The activity was carried out in a series of red and white touring to Pegaf which was held in welcoming the 76th Independence Day (HUT) of the Republic of Indonesia together with the Manokwari Trail Community (KTM).
During the flag handover, the Regional Commander was welcomed by seven tribal chiefs representing the tribes in Pegaf and advised them to continue flying the red and white flag in Pegaf because it is part of the Republic of Indonesia.
"Mr. Tribal Chief, I hand over this red and white flag to continue flying in Pegaf land, the Arfak mountains must continue to be prosperous and peaceful, so that our children and grandchildren in the future can achieve their goals and future well," said Pangdam XVIII/Kasuari.
Apri Indou, Chief of the Anggi District, expressed his gratitude to the Pangdam, for jointly carrying out the red and white flag-raising ceremony.
"We hereby declare that we will always remain the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," he said.
The procession of handing over and raising the red and white flag is a pride and appreciation for the XVIII/Kasuari Military Command to the tribal chiefs in Pegaf.
After receiving the flags, the three tribal chiefs immediately raised the flags through a ceremony led by the Pangdam and followed by local residents and entourage from Kodam XVIII/Kasuari.
After the red and white flag-raising ceremony, the Regional Commander had the opportunity to enter the traditional house and receive an explanation about the millipede traditional house which is the culture of the Pegaf community.
In addition, the Pangdam was also introduced and tried the arrows belonging to the community which were used for hunting, and the Pangdam managed to shoot the target.
The event was closed with the distribution of food parcels to local communities in need in the hope that they could help with their daily needs.
