First in history, Papuan rice was sent to Java via the sea highway

For the first time in history, the land of Papua has succeeded in sending agricultural products in the form of rice to Java. The Merauke rice was successfully shipped using a logistics ship via the Sea Toll Road initiated by President Joko Widodo.

Special Staff of the Minister of Transportation for Maritime Security, Major General TNI Mar (Ret.) Buyung Lalana said the rice shipment was the first shipment. The delivery of rice is also in response to a rice surplus of 200 thousand tons in Merauke.

"This is the first delivery. In the future, not only rice can be distributed. But also sago, copra, gambier, rubber and marine products such as fish, crabs and others," said Buyung, Tuesday (11/24).

Clearly, the success of the Merauke rice delivery made an important history in the implementation of the Sea Toll Program in the country by the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub).

Buyung considered the Sea Toll Road to be clear evidence of the government's efforts to improve services to Indonesia's Disadvantaged, Frontier, Outermost and Border (3TP) areas. "The effect of the Sea Toll Road is a reduction in the price difference between islands which can ultimately improve people's welfare and increase regional economic growth," he concluded.
