Preparation of PON XX Papua, Sea Highway Maximizes Distribution



Ahead of the 20th National Sports Week grand event which will take place in Papua in October this year, the Papuan government continues to optimize the role of the sea highway initiated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in intensifying the distribution of goods for preparation for the XX PON. These preparatory efforts surfaced in the evaluation and coordination meeting which was held for several days.

The sea toll road initiated by President Jokowi has received special attention from the Ministry of Transportation, especially the Directorate General of Sea Transportation through the Jayapura Class II KSOP Office for the 20th PON. Taher Laitupa as the Head of KSOP Class II Jayapura emphasized that his party continues to coordinate the implementation of sea freight (sea highway) for Route T-19. This is done in order to maximize the role of the marine highway in the upcoming biggest national sporting event.

Taher said that people's demand in Papua continues to increase so that the performance of the sea highway continues to be maximized.

"Currently, the level of community demand for using the sea toll is very high and also for the implementation of the Papua XX PON national event in Merauke and Mimika districts. Later, the sea toll road will play an important role in the distribution of accommodation for PON needs for both athletes and committees," said Taher in a statement, Friday (9/7/21).

Taher said that this will be used as a momentum to boost regional potential in producing superior commodities which will later be distributed through the sea toll road.

"So that these business actors can continue to be motivated to increase their production results because they already have a regular market and distribution channel," he added.

Furthermore, the Head of Domestic Trade, Disperindagkop and UKM of Papua Province Herman Bless conveyed several components of accommodation through KM. Lognus 2 on the T-19 route to support the needs of the athletes and the committee uses superior commodities, including during this 7th voyage.

"The processed products of this local industrial commodity, apart from sofas, spring beds as well as beds and chairs, also produce handicrafts and decorations for the hospitality industry and household appliances needs," he explained.

"The sea toll cargo on the T-19 route continues to increase in line with the high level of community needs by using sea toll services at the Port of Depapre," said Head of the Jayapura Regency Transportation Service, Alfons Awaitouw.

Meanwhile, the Head of Disperindagkop & UKM Papua Province Laduani through the Head of the Ronting Industry, said that the development of processed wood into furniture is a leading commodity which is currently being produced to meet the needs of organizing PON XX Papua and is a mainstay product that continues to increase from regencies and cities as well as Jayapura Regency. through local businesses.

“This superior commodity is processed by local entrepreneurs, in this case the development of processed wood into furniture, such as beds, sofas, chairs and mattresses. These processed products will be distributed to several areas in Mimika Regency and also in Merauke," he said.

He added that in the future, these furniture products will become accommodation for athletes and committee members of the XX Papua PON and also meet the needs of the community.
