OTSUS HELP SMALL COMMUNITIES

Chairman of Commission B DPRD Kab. Bintuni Bay, Markus Maboro said the Special Autonomy program basically brought many benefits to the indigenous Papuan people. In the Special Autonomy Law, it is mandated to take sides with Indigenous Papuans so that there are many officials from Indigenous Papuans in their own land.

He explained that the central and regional governments have been trying to improve the welfare of the Papuan people. Efforts have been made, starting from improving supporting infrastructure to providing assistance to stimulate community economic growth, the strategy is carried out in the form of a special Autonomy policy.

He said the main factor that drives welfare improvement is not assistance from the government, but the willingness of the community to be directly involved in the economic cycle in the region.

People who say they reject Otsus are those who feel that the Government has not been able to prosper the Papuan people. Whereas welfare cannot be realized if there is no will from the community to change and become business actors.

He explained that the obstacle to improving the welfare of the Papuan people so far is the lack of business interest in the community so that not many OAPs are currently business actors. Assistance has been provided through the Special Autonomy program, both for MSME capital and other forms of assistance. But the habit of the Papuan people if they get a lot of money will still run out and the results will not be seen.

He appealed to the people of Papua, especially those in the district. Bintuni Bay to support the sustainability of Otsus, because with the revised Special Autonomy Law, in the future it will be better and more effective.
