The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has officially handed over the management of four sports arenas to the Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) to support the implementation of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2021, Thursday (10/06/2021).
The four arenas are aquatic and Istora Papua Bangkit in the Kampung Harapan Sports area, East Sentani District.
Then, the cricket arena and hockey field (indoor and outdoor) at the Doyo Baru Sports Complex, Waibu District in Jayapura Regency.
The Director General (Dirjen) of Cipta Karya at the PUPR Ministry Diana Kusumastuti said the handover of management activities was carried out so that the completed venue could be utilized immediately.
"I entrust a message to my colleagues from the Papua Provincial Government to maintain, care for and manage all the assets that have been handed over as well as possible," Diana said, quoted from a written statement, Thursday (10/06/2021).
After the XX Papua PON is over, the Papua Provincial Government is allowed to use the venue for sports tournament activities, both at the provincial and national levels.
For example, Istora Papua Bangkit can be used to hold music concerts after the Covid-19 pandemic.
He hopes that all the infrastructure that has been built will not only be useful for improving the achievements of Papuan athletes, but also encourage economic growth in the Earth of Cendrawasih.
The construction of sports infrastructure to support the implementation of the XX Papua PON 2021 refers to the mandate of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 10 of 2017.
In this case, the Ministry of PUPR through the Directorate General of Human Settlements in December 2018 began to build an aquatic arena amounting to Rp 401 billion.
This arena was built by PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk which is equipped with swimming pool facilities according to the standards of the Federation Internationale de Nation (FINA), which is the parent organization of international swimming sports.
Furthermore, Istora Papua Bangkit began to be built in November 2018 by utilizing an area of 33,016 square meters in the Kampung Harapan Sports area.
The construction was carried out by the contractor PT PP (Persero) Tbk with a State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) of IDR 278.5 billion.
Istora Papua Bangkit is equipped with international standard facilities and supporting facilities for a training or warm-up field and a parking area.
Right on the 75th Indonesian Independence Day, the structure of the Istora Papua Bangkit building won the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) award for 3 categories at once.
While the third and fourth venues are the cricket arena and hockey field (indoor and outdoor) which have been handed over at the end of the work (FHO) from contractor PT Nindya Karya (Persero) on 27 February 2021.
These two arenas were built on an area of 133,509 square meters at a cost of Rp 288.3 billion.
Especially for outdoor hockey, itself has also received certification from the International Hockey Federation (FIH) on August 5, 2020 as an arena that is ready to be used for international-scale matches.
