Support the Sustainability of Otsus Papua & Support Central Government Policy Programs

Rev. Sestinus Willem Tabo (STh Regional Secretary of the GIDI Church Organization – TABI Jayapura) said he really supports the sustainability of Otsus Papua and supports the Central Government Policy Program.

He conveyed that on April 23, 2021, an inauguration ceremony was held for his official appointment from the Gidi Synod of Papua Province, as Regional Secretary of the GIDI Church Organization - TABI Jayapura to assist Pdt. Usman Kogoya, STh as Chair of the GIDI - TABI Jayapura Church Organization Area In 2020, the GIDI - TABI Jayapura Church Organization Area received funding assistance from the Papuan Governor of Rp. 800 million through Otsus Papua which was used for services to the people of the GIDI - TABI Jayapura Church Organization the majority are OAP.

Assessing that education can build a better nation, so that as the administrator of the GIDI - TABI Jayapura Church Organization Area, he will prioritize education for prospective young pastors from OAP in the Papua region.

The existence of the Papua Special Autonomy Fund allocation has a significant role in ensuring that OAP people can access good education, but in its implementation the Government must actively encourage OAP people to be able to access proper education, especially those living in remote areas.

After the implementation of Otsus Papua, there has been a lot of progress felt by the indigenous Papuans. Previously in Papua there were only 12 regencies, but since the presence of Otsus Papua, now there are 40 regencies/cities, namely 29 in Papua Province and 12 in West Papua Province.

From that side alone there have been extraordinary leaps. In addition, it is also planned that in the future several new provinces will be formed from the expansion of the Papua province and one of them is the southern region of Papua, Bumi Animha, of course this will increase the human resources of indigenous Papuans.

The existence of Otsus Papua, has facilitated young Papuan children to get education abroad by utilizing scholarship facilities provided by the government through Otsus funds, not counting Papuan students who attend various other domestic educational institutions.

Furthermore, looking at development, that almost all districts/cities in Papua and West Papua are now relying on funds from special autonomy funds to be able to develop their regions because the potential for local revenue (PAD) has not been fully exploited.

Sasgal responded that perhaps the management of the special autonomy fund was still not right. Of course there must be a joint correction and evaluation of all state administrators, in this case the government, both at the provincial and district/city levels. The local government, DPRD and MRP (Papuan People's Assembly) must have the courage to sit down and discuss Otsus and the funds that have been used so far so that there is openness to all parties, especially the community.
