The presence of Papua Special Autonomy (Otsus) from the beginning since 2001 is a demand for Papuans who feel left behind from various aspects. The special autonomy budget disbursed by the central government from 2000 to 2021 now, the amount of which continues to increase, is also prioritized for four priority programs. Such as, aspects of education, health, infrastructure, to community economic empowerment. This is proof that the central government's attention to Papua and West Papua is so great.
Muhammad Iqbal Marani, Secretary of KNPI Kab. Teluk Wondama, assessed that the Special Autonomy program has provided the Papuan people with increased infrastructure development and the development of superior Papuan human resources to support the economy in the Papua region.
This Special Autonomy program, continued Iqbal, is proof of the central government's more attention to Papua so that it is still seen as a legitimate part of the Republic of Indonesia. "The community, especially in Wondama, should have understood this to start together in developing their respective regions in line with the ongoing special autonomy program," explained Iqbal.
Iqbal, who is also the village head of Wasior, also asked the Papuan people to participate in guarding Otsus so that its implementation is right on target, especially the indigenous Papuans for the welfare of the indigenous Papuans. "We, the Wasior community, will continue to support the special autonomy program because we feel that it has many positive values for the progress and welfare of the Papuan people," concluded Iqbal.
