The XX National Sports Week (PON) is only 3 months away. In the remaining time, officials from the Jayapura City cluster, the PON Grand Committee, to the Papuan Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) raised one vote, committed to the success of XX PON in Papua.
There is no more debate like before. What exists today is their role in the success of the four-yearly grand sporting event.
Head of Sub-PB PON Jayapura City, Benhur Tomi Mano, said that Jayapura City is the provincial capital which is a barometer in Papua. Therefore, he as the Head of Sub PB PON and Mayor of Jayapura is ready to support the implementation of XX PON.
“Jayapura City is the largest cluster and also has the most venues and sports. We also hope for support from the (provincial) government so that everything can run successfully. In the implementation of this PON, we, the City of Jayapura, implemented the five successes as set out by PB PON. I invite us to join hands to make PON a success. Papua is safe and ready to hold XX PON," said Tomi Mano, recently.
The Daily Chair of the Papua PON Grand Committee (PB), Yunus Wonda, said that PON will be a big responsibility for the community who will host. For this reason, he advised all levels of society together to make PON XX a success.
“In this event on the ground, we must ensure that PON can run well. We will make sure that PON XX will unite all the nation's children. Let all the people present here come with a smile, and we hope that when they come home they will have the same impression,” said Wonda.
The General Secretary of KONI Papua, Kenius Kogoya, emphasized that the implementation of the XX PON is a golden opportunity for the world of sports in the eastern province of Indonesia. He hopes that PON XX can be a momentum for the new revival of sports in Cenderawasih Earth.
“Within 100 years, PON will not necessarily be in Papua. So let's show you something different and prove that we can do it. This PON is a new revival for Papuan sports, and the presence of PON in Papua is a benchmark for fostering sports achievement in this province. We must be polite and friendly hosts for the entire contingent,” said Kogoya.
He ensured that the preparations of the Bumi Cenderawasih athletes for the XX PON have been intense and ready to give achievements. KONI Papua does not want to just be the host.
“We, KONI Papua, do not want to miss this opportunity and we want to show Indonesia and the world that our athletes will excel in PON XX. The athletes we have fostered are 981 athletes plus a total of 1,551 officials. The number is not small, and this proves that the provincial government is committed to elevating our dignity," he said.
