The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Papua Province hopes that the Central Government will no longer postpone the XX National Sports Week (PON) event, which only has five months left, for security reasons.
KONI Papua emphasized that until now the situation on Cenderawasih Earth, especially in the four clusters, remains in a safe and conducive condition.
KONI does not want a series of incidents in the eastern province of Indonesia to be linked with unsafe security ahead of the implementation of the XX PON.
The General Secretary of KONI Papua, Kenius Kogoya, guarantees that the security situation in the four clusters, namely Jayapura City and Regency, Mimika Regency, and Merauke Regency is conducive.
"We hope that there will be no more delays in XX PON. So with the situation or dynamics that exist here it is necessary to be observant to see it. This means that the scene of the incident is far from the place where the PON was held. So don't then judge that Papua is not safe and for the safety of athletes and all kinds, I think this information does not have a valid source, "Kenius told reporters recently.
"This PON must continue to be implemented because we have postponed it for a year, buildings or facilities that have been built if not used are not maintained and will be damaged. Then the costs incurred are also quite large for performance development, because the delay has been a year, "he continued.
Kenius asked all contingents in Indonesia not to hesitate to send their athletes to participate in the XX PON. Moreover, each province has very much confidence in Papua's readiness when hearing firsthand the presentation of the PON Big Committee in the Chef de Mission (CdM) meeting how long ago.
"We hope that the government will not delay it for security reasons, because security is guaranteed. The Jayapura, Merauke, and Timika clusters are in a very safe situation. I think there needs to be enlightenment to the entire contingent. I urge contingents from all over Indonesia not to worry and not to be afraid, PB PON also provides socialization that Papua is safe in four clusters, ”he said.
Meanwhile, Yunyun Yudiana, Deputy Chairperson of West Java KONI II and West Java Satlak Champion Coordinator, also admitted that the situation on Cenderawasih Earth was very different from what was described by a number of media.
Even though it's just coming to Papua for the first time, according to him this area is very peaceful and humble to everyone who comes.
"In terms of security, safety comfort, including health and so on, what was conveyed by Governor Lukas Enembe some time ago, we really trust and believe. And I apologize, unlike what was blown up in a number of media, we don't know the situation and when I came here I saw that Papua was different. I am new to Papua and I saw Papua I was shocked because it was different from what we saw on TV, how come Papua is so great, ”said Yudiana.
The XX PON event will take place on October 2-15 this year and will be held in four clusters, namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Merauke Regency, and Mimika Regency.
