Aviation Traffic during PON in Mimika Predicted to Increase

 

 Air traffic is predicted to increase during the XX National Sports Week (PON), especially in Mimika, Papua Province.

"We predict that during the PON, the flight schedule at Mozes Kilangin Timika Airport is very high," said Head of AirNav Indonesia Timika Branch Andi Nurwansyah when met at the general terminal of Mozes Kilangin Airport on the south side, Sunday (4/4/2021).

He said, the high flight traffic was influenced by passengers and contingents from areas who came to Mimika.

For this reason, it is likely that a number of airlines will propose additional flight hours to Timika.

However, his party has not been able to confirm the percentage increase in flight traffic because he does not yet know the number of participants who will come to attend the biggest sports party in Indonesia.

"Later, when it is known, it will be compared with the composition or number of flights, then we can know the percentage of the increase," said Andi.

"Currently, there are several large aircraft serving Timika, namely Garuda, Sriwijaya, Batik Air, Lion Air, plus aircraft that serve cargo," he explained.

Andi said, the capacity of Mozes Kilangin Airport on the south side is very fulfilling. Especially at this time, the government continues to boost airport development, starting from completing public terminals, adding runways, approns, and others.

Therefore, his party continues to coordinate with the authorities on airport issues, starting with AVCO, UPBU and others.

“This coordination is important, because AirNav, which operates from the navigation side, cannot work alone. Of course, it requires parties who take care of the aircraft on the ground, "he said.

He added that currently the average number of flights in Mimika, from small-bodied aircraft to large-bodied aircraft, averages 100-120 flights per day.

"With that average, flights in Mimika are quite dense. And we are grateful, so far there have been no obstacles in our navigation system, "he said.
