The Deputy Chairperson of the Papua DPR even revealed that President Jokowi conveyed the certainty that there would be no delay in the PON in a limited meeting with the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, on Monday (15/03).
"The President has decided that PON will continue to be implemented this year. As scheduled, it will be held from 2-15 October 2021, ”said Yunus Woda via his cell phone from Jakarta to Pacific Pos, after a limited meeting.

"So until now there has been no instruction whether it is implemented virtually or what. But we still prepare normally, "said Yunus Wonda.
He continued, the request for postponement of the PON was submitted by Enembe who is also the General Chair of the PB PON Papua when he met the Vice President, Ma'ruf Amin in Jakarta, at the end of February 2021.
According to Yunus Wonda, there were two main reasons the Papua Governor asked to be postponed at that time. First, because the Covid-19 situation continues to increase. Second, the governor saw this as a people's party and the people's euphoria, so he didn't want the event to be held without spectators.
"So the governor wants it because this is a people's party, so that the people can also witness it firsthand. This is an opportunity for Papua to become the host. But if we wait for the next event, it might be in 100 years, "he said.
