Secretary of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Papua Province Kenius Kogoya hopes that all Papuan people will always be optimistic and support the implementation of the XX 2020 National Sports Week (PON) in Papua.
"We must take this opportunity, because we won't be able to host PON in 100 years," Kenius told reporters, Thursday (26/9/2019) in Jayapura.
Kenius said, PON is not only owned by the government and KONI but belongs to all citizens in Papua.
"We must not be pessimistic, we must be optimistic that PON must be successful in Papua. We must not respond to the things that are not good here, even though we know something is happening in Papua, we must support and care about this event, "he said.
He said, PON is very important for Papua because it will be an added value for equitable development in Papua, as well as improve the community's economy, because the success of PON is not only successful in implementation and successful achievements.
"PON can improve the economy of the people in the villages. Moreover, people can sell local Papuan accessories, as well as local specialties that can be sold at tourist attractions. That increases economic sales, even PAD in each region designated as a PON cluster, "he said.
Previously, the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, said that the successful implementation of the XX 2020 National Sports Week (PON) on Cenderawasih Earth depended on the support of the state. According to him, until now there is still a shortage of around Rp. 4 trillion for the implementation of PON.
"If the state does not support (PON), we will fail. Yes (but) the failure is not (from) the province, but the failure of the state, "said Enembe, in Jayapura recently.
According to Governor Lukas Enembe, the implementation of PON XX Papua in 2020 is not only on the agenda of the provincial government, but also the country, where Papua has the opportunity to be the host. Therefore, the results of the 2020 PON evaluation will be reported to the President in the near future, with the hope of receiving central attention.
