The Jayawijaya Regency Government (Pemkab) began vaccinating the regional leadership communication forums (forkopimda) as well as a number of community and religious leaders at the Wamena Regional Hospital.
Deputy Regent of Jayawijaya, Marthin Yogobi, was the first person to receive the vaccine after the initial health screening results had met the standards for receiving the vaccine.
"After being vaccinated, I was asked to rest for 30 minutes but after that there was no reaction whatsoever," he said.
According to Yogobi, this vaccination is carried out to increase immunity for anyone because giving this vaccine is the right of every citizen to get health services.
Therefore, the local government must be an example for the community because this is very important to increase immunity from various types of diseases including Covid-19.
"We hope that after it is announced by the local government today it will be followed by all people in Jayawijaya, so that similar vaccinations can be carried out after all health workers are vaccinated according to priority," he said.
Yogobi said that the Sinovac vaccine was not given just like that, but first a medical examination was carried out to find out whether there was a congenital disease or not.
"If there is not there, they can be vaccinated immediately. But if there are other diseases, the doctor will definitely direct them to take treatment first, "he said.
He explained that Jayawijaya as the parent district in the Lapago region must do the vaccination first, in order to become an example for other districts in general in the Lapago region that vaccines are safe.
"This vaccine is safe so that all people in Jayawijaya and also in Lapago in general, in order to protect themselves from disease and Covid-19 in particular, there is no need to be afraid," he said.
Meanwhile, the head of the Jayawijaya Health Office, doctor Willy Mambieuw, said that prior to the injection, the officials who received the vaccine would still undergo another medical examination such as checking blood pressure, whether they had diseases such as cough and fever or not.
"If there is something that means that it cannot be vaccinated. After the injection of the vaccine, we give the recipients time to rest, to see the side effects after the injection, so we prepare the room. "They are given a 30 minute pause, if there are no symptoms after the vaccine, these officials can leave the premises," said Mambieuw.
Later, he said, after being vaccinated, these officials will again receive the second vaccine and if there are no obstacles, they will be given some kind of certificate that can be used for travel.
"At the time of vaccination, we have also prepared a room, several beds equipped with oxygen and various precautions if the effects of this vaccine appear according to operational standards. But after the injection, praise God, nothing happened, ”he said.
