Papua Fishermen Association Supports Special Autonomy to be continued

The chairman of the Papua Province Fishermen Cooperative Association (AKNEPP) Salmon Patai, SH said, Special Autonomy (Otsus) in the Land of Papua must be continued.

"For Otsus, we will still provide support and it must be continued in Papua," said Salmon Patai.

According to Patai, if someone says that Otsus failed, that is also questionable. It should not have been the autonomy that failed but the perpetrators themselves who failed.

"I think those who have the authority and provide protection against the special autonomy are not being carried out. So that many people think that the special autonomy has failed, "he explained.

Salmon said, as the chairman of the Papua Fishermen's Association, his party supports the special autonomy in Papua to be continued, but what needs to be paid attention to and his note is that if possible there is also special protection for Papuan fishermen.

Salmon gave an example, the protection he meant was so that the Papuan fishermen were also given more attention by the Government, including helping these Papuan fishermen to have cooperative offices throughout Papua.

"There must be new trainings every year in technology so that there are improvements. So that fishermen can develop their catch to every regency / city even to Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, Makassar to overseas, "he explained.

Salmon continued, in fact the special autonomy has been felt by his party as a fisherman, even since he became chairman from 2003-2005 it went very well.

For this reason, in order for Otsus to run well in the future, he hopes that there will be an evaluation from the government of the related agencies so that it will touch the fishermen even more so that the autonomy funds that are lowered can touch the local fishermen who now number 6,000 people.
