The General Election Commission (KPU) of Yahukimo Regency, Papua Province has held a candidate debate with the theme "Bureaucratic Reform and Public Service Towards a Prosperous Yahukimo Community" broadcast live on TVRI Papua and Radio Bumi Sumohai 100.3 FM from Hotel Mercure Jayapura, Papua.
The head of KPU Yahukimo, Yesaya Magayang, said that the implementation of the candidiate debate involved two public broadcasting stations so that the Yahukimo community who had television and radio sets could follow when the two pairs of candidates (candidate pairs) for Regent and Deputy Regent of Yahukimo conveyed their vision and mission.
By understanding the vision and mission of the candidate pairs, the public will be able to determine their choices, who will be voted on in the 2020 Pilkasa Simultaneously which will be held on 9 December.
"For this first debate, according to the results of a survey we conducted in 51 districts and 512 villages, only 20 percent of the Yahukimo community has a television set and can participate in the debate," said Yesaya Magayang, to Jubi, after the candidate debate.
To reach 80 percent of the people who do not have a television set, said Magayang, KPU Yahukimo cooperates with Radio Bumi Sumohai FM.
When asked why the KPU Yahukimo continues to hold a candidate debate through television broadcasts, Magayang said that the candidate debate is one of the conditions that must be carried out by the candidate pairs.
"To be able to campaign in 51 districts is also not easy. Therefore, through this debate the candidate pairs could convey their vision and mission. People who have TV and radio sets can follow it, can make choices and cast their votes on December 9, "said Magayang.
KPU Yahukimo commissioner, Penas Pahabol, when reading the speech of the Chairman of KPU Yahukimo, said the candidate debate is one type of campaign facilitated by KPU Yahukimo, based on the General Election Commission Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 4 of 2017 concerning Campaigns for Governors and Deputy Governors, Regents and Deputy Regents , Mayor and Deputy Mayor. State that public debates or open debates by provincial and regency KPU are broadcast openly.
"The KPU hopes that through this regional election, people can elect regional leaders who are truly competent, can prosper the people and advance the region, especially Yahukimo Regency," said Penas Pabahol.
Meanwhile, the head of Bawaslu Yahukimo, Sepius Mirin, said that the debates presented by the two candidates for Regent and Deputy Regent of Yahukimo were very high.
