Dozens of Papuan students in Yogyakarta held a declaration in front of the Gajah Mada University roundabout. The students expressed their support for the government so that the Special Autonomy (Otsus) for Papua be continued.
"We Papuan and West Papuan students who are members of the 'Yogyakarta Unified Papuan Student Coalition' view that Special Autonomy for Papua Volume II can have a positive impact on Papua's development, especially regarding education," said the coordinator of the declaration, Baren.
He stated that Papuan student support for Otsus Volume II was an obligation. Moreover, this is related to education, improving Papuan human resources which should be the government's priority. "Special Autonomy for Papua Volume II must be continued with a note that it is obligatory to side with the world of education," he continued.
Baren also hopes that the regional government will make a Papuan Perdasus that takes sides with the Papuan people. For example the candidate for Regent must be a native Papuan.
Meanwhile, regarding the declaration at the UGM Yogyakarta roundabout, Baren said this was the wish of Papuan students as a concrete step to provide support for the progress of the Cendrawasih Earth. He hopes that Otsus Papua Volume II can also guarantee students who are currently studying, both in Papua and outside the region.
"We will continue to struggle to convey our aspirations to the central government so that Special Autonomy for Papua Volume II will continue. In addition, there must be an Otsus budget oversight body related to the Papua Special Autonomy budget policy Volume II, "said Baren.
According to him, Papua's Special Autonomy Volume II should be continued by taking into account the aspects of development and social welfare through a budget scheme that includes priorities on infrastructure and educational scholarships.
