The Papua Regional Representative Office for Bank Indonesia has distributed scholarships amounting to IDR 2.4 billion to 250 students from five universities.
Five universities that received scholarships on August 13, 2020, namely Cenderawasih University in Jayapura, State Islamic Institute of Fattahul Muluk in Jayapura, Musamus University in Merauke, Ottow Geissler University in Jayapura, and Jayapura University of Science and Technology.
"This year's scholarship distribution has increased compared to last year. Last year we provided scholarships to 150 students from three universities with a nominal value of IDR 1.5 billion, ”said the Head of BI Papua, Naek Tigor Sinaga, in Jayapura City, Friday (14/8/2020).
Sinaga said that the scholarship assistance was a form of support from Bank Indonesia in developing the capacity of Human Resources to achieve an advanced Indonesia.
"The distribution of Bank Indonesia scholarships in the series of BI Teaching 2020 events held by the Bank Indonesia Representative Office in the context of BI's 67th Anniversary and RI's 75th Anniversary," said Sinaga.
Sinaga said that the BI Teaching program was a routine program carried out annually by Bank Indonesia, both at the Head Office and all Bank Indonesia Representative Offices. However, continued Sinaga, which is usually done face-to-face, now it is done virtually or online.
Sinaga explained that the BI Teaching program in 2020, which was attended by 393 participants from all over Indonesia, carried the theme Synergy to Build BI Digital and Advanced Indonesia, which emphasized the importance of digital economic development as an indicator of developed countries, especially in the era of industrial revolution 4.0.
This is in line with Bank Indonesia's vision to become the Leading Digital Central Bank that contributes significantly to the national economy and is the best among emerging market countries for advanced Indonesia.
"In the future, Bank Indonesia will continue to maintain and increase its commitment to improving the quality of human resources in Papua through the distribution of scholarships and activities that support the absorption of Papuan human resources in the world of work," said Sinaga.
When contacted by Jubi, the Chairman of the Papua People's Representative Council, Jhony Banua Rouw, expressed his appreciation for Bank Indonesia, because with the expansion of the scholarship, more female students will be helped to continue studying amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I appeal to Papuan youths not to hesitate to become businessmen or entrepreneurs in the context of recovery and improving the welfare of the Papuan people after the Covid-19 pandemic, and to participate in developing Indonesia as a whole by opening jobs," said Rouw.B
