For Food Security in Dondai Village, Residents Must Grow Vegetables

Head of Dondai Village, Yosis Daimoye obliged his community to cultivate agricultural land as a form of support for the food security program during the Covid-19 pandemic. This program was launched directly by the Regent of Jayapura, Mathius Awoitauw, SE, M.Sc some time ago.

"We require all family heads in this village to cultivate special agricultural land for vegetables," Yosis Daimoye said when met by reporters in Kampung, Dondai, Waibu District, Sunday (7/5).

Like other villages in Jayapura Regency, he has also received a budget allocation for the food security program worth Rp 100 million. The funds were then distributed to all family heads worth Rp 700 thousand.

The funds are used as capital from each family to manage the vegetable garden land using the verticulture method. According to him, so far the community has started to harvest the processed vegetables and some of them have been marketed to meet the economic needs of each family in the village.

Head of the Waibu District, Dominggus Kawai, highly appreciated the village's policy of being able to implement the food security program, despite limitations in terms of land availability.

"Here it is arid, but they are able to make a breakthrough by utilizing verticultural media to grow vegetables. This is very extraordinary and we hope that in the future it needs to be developed in order to improve the family economy by maximizing the plot of land, "he added.
