In the midst of the economic downturn due to the new corona virus pandemic or Covid-19, there is a village in Jayapura Regency, Papua, which is actually stirring its tourism sector.
The fastest is the Yoboi Village, now known as the "colorful village". The name arises because the village, which is a floating region and is on the edge of Lake Sentani, has a colorful dock and then viral on social media.
To go to Yoboi village, we have to cross using a small boat from the Yahim Pier with a tariff of Rp 5,000 / head and the distance is only about 10 minutes.
Just about a month Kampong Yoboi visited by tourists and on weekends the number of visitors can reach 600 people. It turned out that the story behind the transformation of Yoboi Village into a tourist attraction was due to the confined youth in the village due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Billy Tokoro, a resident of Kampung Yoboi who was one of the originators of the idea to color the pier, revealed that the idea of ??making a colorful pier was precisely because it was corona and welcomed by the community.
"We consulted and 15 young men collected funds up to Rp. 2 million and finally painted the pier," said Billy, when met in Yoboi Village, Saturday (07/18/2020).
After finishing painting, Billy claimed to have invited several photography communities to document the colorful pier. However, he forbade them to upload photos taken to social media.
"I'm sure the first upload was very important, so I forbid them to upload before we determined which photos could be increased. Finally, there was one photo selected and then where we were viral," he said.
Since then, Yoboi village was visited by tourists and changed the economy of the community. Even though it was planned in a short time, what was in Yoboi Village could be said to be very representative of the culture of the coastal communities of Papua, from the arts to the culinary.
