The city of Jayapura develops Ciherang type rice |
The Head of the City Food and Agriculture Service, Jean Hendrik Rollo, said that since 2018 the Ciherang rice has been developed because it can adapt to climate conditions in Jayapura City.
"We have planted Ciherang rice seeds several times, the results are very good," Rollo said at the Mayor's Office.
Rollo said, in addition to being planted, Ciherang rice staple seeds had been bred to local farmers 2 to 3 times to produce scattered or new seeds.
"We took the main seeds from Merauke. The availability of seeds for one planting season is 12,500 kilograms for 550 hectares, "said Rollo.
The Mayor of Jayapura, Benhur Tomi Mano, said 70 percent of agricultural land should not be converted into residential land because it has an impact on food availability.
According to him, agricultural land should not be traded because of agricultural land to improve the economy and income of farmers.
