The postponement of the Papuan PON which will be held in 2021 is used by North Kalimantan (Kaltara) to improve team preparation. KONI Kaltara as the parent of the sport will be more mature athletes in this long period.
"It is precisely the wisdom of this delay that makes our time to prepare longer. I ask that, driven by KONI as the parent of the sport, more preparation be prepared," Kaltara Governor Irianto Lambrie said in a press release received in Tarakan on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.
In accordance with the Presidential Decree, the implementation of the 20th PON in Papua, which had been held in October this year, was shifted to October 2021. The Governor hopes that his region is able to compete with other provinces, including in the field of sports. "As a new area, we are not setting grandiose targets," he said.
However, Irianto reminded that what needs attention is that when the COVID-19 pandemic condition is not over, all sectors must be able to adapt. The athletes are no exception.
He said, although he could not prepare as usual, he still had to train in various ways and his enthusiasm for achievement had to be maintained.
