5 Districts in Papua will have restrictions on their activities

Papua Provincial Government starting Sunday (05/17/2020) will impose restrictions on the time of activity for residents in five districts / cities. Residents of the five regencies / cities in Papua are only permitted to carry out activities outside the house between 06.00 and 14.00 WP.

The time limitation of the activity was imposed in five districts / cities with a large number of positive corona cases, and the widespread distribution of the Covid-19 pandemic. The five regencies / cities are Jayapura, Keerom, Nabire, Mimika, and Jayapura Districts.

Deputy Governor of Papua, Klemen Tinal said the time limit for residents to do activities outside the house had been agreed at a joint meeting of regional heads in Papua on May 5, 2020. However, there were still differences in the time allowed to do activities, so the time setting must be agreed again.

"So, starting May 17, 2020, five areas of special concern [handling the Covid-19 pandemic] have to follow the time limits of community activities in a consistent and responsible manner," Tinal said in Jayapura on Monday (05/11/2020).

In addition to imposing restrictions on the time of activities of citizens in the five districts / cities, Tinal also asked the district / city government to quarantine all Persons in Monitoring, Patients in Oversight, and other suspected corona.

"These two points have been agreed upon. Therefore, I ask the regency / city government in the near future to be able to run it, "said Tinal.

Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Paulus Waterpauw also said that he and the TNI, the Civil Service Police Unit, Covid-19 Task Force and Covid-19 Task Force regencies / cities will disseminate the policy to limit the time for activities starting Tuesday (05/12/2020). The socialization of the policy of limiting the time of citizens' activities will be carried out by sticking stickers on cars, as well as other means of socialization.

"The socialization will be carried out until May 16, 2020. After that, we will take decisive action to really stop various community activities in [the five] districts / cities that are of concern," he said.

Waterpauw asked the public to truly understand the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic. The time limit for citizens' activities must be done to reduce the rate of spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Papua. Nevertheless, Waterpauw still asked the public to calm down and not panic in facing the Covid-19 outbreak.

"People do not need to panic and be angry in dealing with this situation. Hopefully the preventive measures taken can help break the chain of spread of the [corona virus], "he said.
