The Government Ensures Staple Prices Stable When Corona Pandemic

Secretary of the Coordinating Minister for the Republic of Indonesia, Susiwijono, said that the government continues to maintain stability in the prices of Indonesia's staples amid a new corona virus pandemic (COVID-19).

He said, in accordance with President Joko Widodo's direction, the government prioritized four aspects to maintain the availability of staple food.

"First in terms of stock, supply availability, third distribution and fourth most important is price stabilization," Susiwijono said at a press conference at BNPB Jakarta.

From the stock side, he said the government continued to hold coordination meetings with relevant ministries to monitor all staple food items every week.

Furthermore, Susi said, the meeting will discuss how the daily stock availability, needs in the next few months. They will also consider other things such as imports.

"So we have all the balance sheets. Every day we monitor, we also estimate that at the end of the year our stock will be able to last up to several months," he said.

From the aspect of supply, the government has also involved many business sectors, especially those engaged in the real sector such as Hipindo, Aprindo, and Gappmi, to guarantee the supply of staple food.

In terms of distribution, Susi said the government had coordinated with business associations and regional governments so that the distribution could reach all Indonesian people.

He hoped, the government's efforts in price stabilization could be able to bring basic foodstuffs that were affordable to the people and the purchasing power remained.

"We will maintain the price of staple 11 ingredients. In accordance with the president's directives to maintain the availability of staple food, ensure the supply of current supplies is stable and affordable by the public," he concluded
