Added Security Personnel in Papua |
The Papua Regional Police plan to add more personnel for security in a number of vulnerable areas in Papua which are the attention of the TNI-Polri security apparatus.
The Papua Regional Police Chief, Insp. Gen. Paulus Waterpauw, admitted that he had submitted a letter for additional troops and was awaiting instructions from the National Police Headquarters.
"There is an appeal from the Minister of Home Affairs for the addition of troops to Papua and we have submitted it and at this time we are still waiting for instructions from the National Police Headquarters," he said.
The Kapolda admitted that the number of personnel in Papua currently numbered approximately five thousand personnel deployed in several districts such as Timika, Nduga, Intan Jaya and Lanny Jaya.
"The number of our existing personnel is approximately 5,000 in Timika, Nduga, Intan Jaya and Lanny Jaya. They are still on standby to anticipate attacks carried out by the Armed Criminal Group, but so far it is still quite conducive, "he said.
When asked about the strength of the Armed Criminal Group, the Regional Police Head of Waterpauw said that there were approximately five groups that were temporarily joining Tembagapura.
"There are about five or six groups that have been active in Puncak Ilaga, Intan Jaya, Nduga and Timika. They always attack the apparatus to look for weapons and ammunition, after that they run away again, this is what we are wary of, "he said.
