The First Time Freeport Has A New Boss, Son of Papua

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) secretly has a new board of directors and commissioners. The changeover was held after the PTFI general meeting of shareholders (RUPS) at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) on Friday (7/2/2020).
Special Staff of the Minister of BUMN Arya Sinulingga said that the change of management was done to fill vacancies in a number of positions. The current President Director of PTFI is filled by Clayton Allen Wenas, while the Vice President Director is filled by Jenpino Ngabdi.

"Indeed, since February 7 there is a vacancy in the management of commissioners and directors (PT Freeport). Managing Director Clayton Allen Wenas, Deputy President Director Jenpino Ngabdi," Arya said at the SOE Ministry, Monday (02/17/2020).

Interestingly, there is a Papuan son in the board of directors named Claus Wamafma. Arya said, he was a Papuan who had a career in Freeport for 20 years. His position broke history as the first Papuan to become a Director at PTFI.

"He was previously in charge of the SVP CSR Partnership Fun and Community Development. He is the director of indigenous Papuans who have a career from the bottom. This is only the first director of Papuans who have a career from below," he said.

With the new board of directors and commissioners, the completion of the Grasberg mine is expected to be on schedule. But when asked when, Arya could not explain.

"The mine is still being built (Grasberg), our taget they are in accordance with the schedule to be able to mine later. Now we just make infrastructure for mining. (When the schedule is forgotten)," he said.
