The Biak Numfor Regency Government, Papua prohibits the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages during the Advent period to welcome Christmas and the 2023 New Year.
"I have prepared a circular on the prohibition and sale of alcoholic beverages starting December 5, 2023," said Biak Regent Herry Ario Naap in Biak, Sunday.
He hopes that the issuance of a circular prohibiting and distributing alcoholic beverages will serve as a guideline for law enforcement officials to take action against violators.
Regent Herry Naap appealed to the people of Biak Numfor Regency to always maintain order and peace during Christmas and New Year 2023 by not consuming any type of alcohol.
He invited all religious people to maintain mutual tolerance while welcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.
"Let's protect Biak Numfor together as the most tolerant city in the Land of Papua by respecting each other and maintaining togetherness in celebrating religious holidays," added Biak Numfot Regent Herry Naap.
Regarding sanctions for business actors who violate the sale of alcoholic beverages, according to Regent Herry Naap, the heaviest sanction can be revocation of business licenses while other sanctions can be charged with criminal acts.
Regent Herry Naap said, to oversee the prohibition on the circulation of the sale of alcoholic beverages, the Biak Numfor Regency Government will ask the Civil Service Police Unit and the Regional Police to oversee the regent's instructions regarding the prohibition of alcohol.
"I hope that kiosk and shop businesses will pay attention to the ban on the distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages so that they can help maintain the peace of Biak Numfor in welcoming the waiting period for the Christmas of the birth of Jesus Christ," said Regent Herry Naap.
