22,264 vulnerable workers in Jayapura City are protected by employment social security



As many as 22,264 vulnerable workers in Jayapura City, Papua have been protected by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, which are spread across districts, sub-districts and villages.

"Protection of workers, drivers, fishermen, MSMEs, socially vulnerable and poor work sectors," said the Acting Mayor of Jayapura, Frans Pekey, at the Jayapura Mayor's Office, Monday (6/12/2022).

Vulnerable workers are workers in the informal sector whose working conditions are far from standard values, have a high risk and have very minimal income and are workers who are not wage earners.
 
“When there is a work accident or death, it is guaranteed. Can apply for payment to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. Vulnerable workers are vulnerable to economic turmoil and below average levels of welfare," he said.

Pekey hopes that with this social protection vulnerable workers in Jayapura City will no longer have to worry in the event of a work fire but instead move around comfortably to meet the daily needs of their family.

"This social protection is the concern and service of the Jayapura City Government so that citizens, especially vulnerable workers, especially native Papuans, can enjoy special autonomy funds," he said.

The head of the Papua Jayapura Employment BPJS, Haryanjas Pasang Kamase, said that payments of more than IDR 12 billion have been paid or 10,000 more vulnerable workers.

"What we pay is insurance for work accidents, old age insurance, death insurance, and elderly insurance, with the hope of having an impact on participants and improving the community's economy," he said.

Haryanjas hopes that through the social security provided by the City Government of Jayapura in an effort to meet the needs of the community according to Presidential Instruction No. 4 of 2022 concerning eradicating extreme poverty.

"For the people of Port Numbay [Jayapura City] it is prioritized. There were 8,000 participants. We hope this will be a motivation for other people to join as members of BPJS Employment," he said.
