A number of parties have urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to disclose the results of the medical examination of the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe.
According to the Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman, this is important for the KPK to do as a form of transparency in handling the investigation into the alleged bribery and gratuity case that ensnared Lukas.
"The KPK certainly has to open up the results of LE [Lukas Enembe's] health examination to the public. The process for handling this case must be the same as other cases which are openly conveyed every development," Boyamin told CNNIndonesia.com via a written message, Monday (21/11 ).
Boyamin asked the KPK to be firm in handling this case by immediately detaining Lukas. He explained that the banning process could be carried out if the person concerned was sick and could not undergo the legal process.
"Later, when he is arrested and detained, he will be thrown out. It is more elegant because the law applies to all. There should not be any special treatment," said Boyamin.
Boyamin added that his party already had plans to sue the KPK Pretrial over the protracted handling of the Lukas case.
"The plan is to sue next year, in January," he said.
The chairman of Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) Sugeng Teguh Santoso conveyed a similar call. He asked the anti-corruption agency to uphold the law in a straightforward and non-selective way.
"The KPK leadership must disclose to the public the results of the medical examination by the KPK doctor and the IDI [Indonesian Doctors Association] who conducted Enembe's medical examination," said Sugeng.
"If Enembe's condition is healthy, then he must immediately be examined as a suspect," he added.
CNNIndonesia.com has contacted the Head of the KPK Reporting Section, Ali Fikri, to ask about the results of Lukas' medical examination. However, until this news was written there was no response.
Some time ago, Ali had said that the results of the medical examination were still being analyzed by investigators.
"The investigation team is still analyzing it to immediately determine the next legal steps," said Ali, Tuesday (11/8).
KPK has named Lukas Enembe as a suspect in the alleged bribery case related to work or projects originating from the Papua Province APBD.
Lukas has been prevented from traveling abroad for six months from 7 September 2022 to 7 March 2023. The KPK has also blocked the accounts of Lukas and his wife Yulce Wenda.
Apart from that, the KPK also ransacked Lukas' house in Jakarta. Documents, electronic evidence, financial records, cash and gold bars allegedly related to the case have been confiscated by the investigation team.
KPK investigators had difficulty examining Lukas because he claimed to be sick. KPK investigators and doctors examined Lukas' health in person at his residence in Koya, Jayapura, on November 3, 2022. However, the KPK decided not to arrest Lukas yet.
