The Representative Office (KPw) of Bank Indonesia (BI) Papua Province is optimistic that by year-end local inflation can be controlled to be in the range of 5 percent.
Head of Bank Indonesia Papua Province Representative Office Juli Budi Winantya in Jayapura, Wednesday, said that the current upward trend in inflation was caused by rising food prices where Papua was ranked the sixth highest in Indonesia with a figure of 7.27 percent.
"However, we see the movement of commodities that cause inflation, the price has tended to decline, such as air transportation has followed the direction of the President," he said.
According to July, not only the price of air transportation, but food items in September also began to decline. For this reason, coordination with the Papua Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) is very important to ensure that the decline will continue so that inflation in Papua remains under control.
"After coordinating with the provinces, we also visited inflation cities, namely Jayapura City, Merauke Regency, and Mimika, to discuss inflation control going well," he said.
In general, he explained that food in Papua must be imported from outside, so that cooperation between regions and related agencies needs to be improved. His party is identifying the potentials for increasing agricultural productivity.
"Like in Merauke Regency, there will be planting of chilies and shallots, then Keerom and also the City of Jayapura with vegetables and encouraging the planting of chilies in the yard," he said again.
He added that in the inflation control movement, there are two things that are of common concern, the first is related to price stability and the second is about food security. For this reason, he appealed to the public to shop in moderation.
