Inspiring Young Papuans hold batik coloring training



Inspirational Young Papua (PMI) in collaboration with the Director General of the Ministry of Industry to provide technical guidance (bimtek) for new batik entrepreneurs, based on the competence of making stamped batik cloth, with batik coloring in Jayapura City earlier this week.

PMI has a view to bring a new spirit to young Papuan people. Through this PMI, young Papuan people can implement the potential of their creative ideas.

PMI's Socio-Cultural Project Manager, Efraim Ramandey said, the activity, which was attended by 15 people from 6 batik groups in Jayapura, was carried out in collaboration between PMI and the Ministry of Industry and the Yogyakarta Batik and Crafts Center.

"This batik group exists. These 6 batik groups follow advanced technical guidance, not beginners. The techniques provided in this technical guidance are advanced techniques," Efraim said in a press statement received by Antara in Jayapura, Saturday.

The event was attended by Assistant 2 for Jayapura City Development, Ir. B. Widi Hartanti and the Secretary of the Jayapura City Industry and Trade Agency, Abner Bmei and a number of other figures.

Efraim explained, in this series of activities, PMI facilitated batik craftsmen to obtain professional certification of batik competencies. According to him, not only certification, but also batik production equipment, the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and PMI.

"Hopefully this certification will become legal standing for batik business actors. In this event we also encourage the granting of intellectual property rights for brands, designs, and motifs. The aim is to protect the designs of Papuan batik motifs in the future so that these motifs can have higher economic value, especially for the people of Papuan batik activists," he explained.

Efraim also expressed his gratitude to all those who had helped the event.

The Head of the Center for Standardization and Services for the Handicraft and Batik Industry, Ministry of Industry, Hendra Yetty, stated that his party fully supports the beneficial activities held by PMI. He hopes that this activity will continue.

"Hopefully this training will not stop here, continue to be improved, continue to be honed, put into practice," he said.

One of the batik craftsmen, Blandina Ongge (57), said she was happy with this activity. He thanked PMI and related parties for helping batik craftsmen to develop their potential and relationships to improve their economic activities.

Blandina invites novice batik makers to continue working and never give up in learning batik. "I am very grateful to the inspirational Young Papuans, the Ministry of Industry, Balai Batik for the assistance that has been given to business groups in Jayapura," he said.

This technical guidance activity will take place from 19-23 September 2022.
