The Papua Provincial Government will improve marine and fisheries facilities and infrastructure to support investment or fishing activities in the measured fishing policy of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
Head of the Papua Province Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service, Iman Djuniawal, in his statement to reporters at the Jakarta KKP office, Monday, said Papua plans to develop a port for fish landings so that it can accommodate fish with a larger capacity in line with the implementation of a measured fishing policy.
"The Papuan Sea is rich, but the port facilities are not wide and limited. This means that there must be an increase in infrastructure so that the ships can dock and land their fish in the port. This is what we continue to develop," said Iman after accompanying the Papua Provincial Secretary to conduct an audience. with the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
Iman said that his party is still preparing facilities and infrastructure to support the shelter of fishing vessels above 30 GT. The plan is that the Papua Provincial Government will utilize and optimize the existing facilities along with the development of other ports.
"The plan for now is of course an Nusantara Fishery Port in Merauke, that means to accommodate all activities from fishing activities with vessels above 30 GT so that they can be landed at the port. We also hope to take advantage of the existing facilities with our independence so that we can can manage ports with a higher level, namely fish landing bases," said Iman.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will implement a quota-based measurable fishing policy in the context of better capture fisheries governance by balancing the economy and ecology.
The policy requires every ship that catches fish in the State Fisheries Management Area of the Republic of Indonesia (WPPNRI) to land fish at the local port. This is to provide added value to the local economy.
Iman said that fishing activities in the capture fisheries business will later land fish in transit ports in the Papua region.
"Which port will be left to stay from capture fisheries activities where they catch them. It is the port of call that will benefit from this activity besides the PNBP that will be collected by the central government, but will also contribute to the multiplier effect on other activities at the port. -harbor." said Faith.
