Forum of Regional Heads in Tabi Land Supports the Expansion of the New Province of Papua

FORUM Together with Regional Heads and Indigenous Leaders throughout the Land of Tabi Papua, we fully support the plan of the central government and the Indonesian House of Representatives to form a New Autonomous Region at the provincial level in Papua.

In the plan discussed by the government and the DPR RI, there will be three new provinces in Papua, namely South Papua Province, Central Papua Province and Central Highlands Papua Province.

"We, the traditional leaders and regional heads throughout Tanah Tabi, including Jayapura Regency, Jayapura City, Keerom Regency, Sarmi Regency, Membramo Raya Regency, fully support the establishment of the New Autonomous Province in Papua. We also urge the central government and the Indonesian House of Representatives to remain consistent with the current agenda," said the Head of the Joint Forum for Regional Heads in Tabi Land, Mathius Awoitauw in a joint statement delivered to reporters, Friday (11/3).

The Joint Forum for Regional Heads in Tabi and traditional leaders, he said, gathered today in Sentani to share thoughts and views and respond to the dynamics developing in Papua regarding the agenda for the establishment of the New Autonomous Region.

“This means that this statement of position is made to also provide political support after the dynamics that have developed over the past few days. We assess that the agenda for the expansion of the Province has passed careful consideration by the central government in consultation with the regional government and the Papuan people so far. Of course, we need to guard this together,” said Mathius.

His party also requested that the Papuan Provincial Government, Papuan DPR, and MRP participate in responding to the developing socio-political dynamics.

“This means that the Governor of Papua, the Papuan DPR and the MRP need to jointly oversee this. The political agenda of the division must be seen proportionally in the eyes of good intentions as one of the efforts to accelerate development in Papua," concluded Mathius.
