Construction of houses for residents affected by flash floods in Jayapura Regency continues to be pursued

The process of building houses for residents affected by flash floods and overflowing Lake Sentani, Jayapura Regency, is still being carried out by dozens of local entrepreneurs.

One of the local businessmen, Irvin Sokoy, said that he had finished working on two packages of construction and rehabilitation of 17 housing units in Putali Village, Ebungfa District. Where, in the first package of work as many as 9 housing units were built in mid-November 2021, and completed towards the end of December 2021.

"Five new housing units were built, four housing units only rehabilitated the floors, walls, roof, and terraces and were painted fresh," said Irvin when met in Sentani, Thursday (3/3/2022).

The first package was finished, said Sokoy, followed by the second package in early January and finished at the end of last February. "Eight housing units, on average, are in severe and moderate damage."

Most of the beneficiary residents whose houses were newly rebuilt, or only rehabilitated certain parts, expressed their gratitude to the contractors and local governments who provided the work packages.

"By utilizing five handymen and dozens of workers who are residents of Putali Village. The two work packages went smoothly until they were finished," he explained.

Irvin also admitted that in the process of this work, he once owed tens of cubic meters of wood material in the amount of Rp. 200 million, then the debt was repaid in line with the work process.

"Funds for the construction of one housing unit according to the rules set by the regional government are IDR 50 million, initial disbursement of 30 percent with a tax deduction, the first package of nine houses we work on a marathon to complete, as well as the second package," he said.

Meanwhile, the Acting Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Jayapura Regency, Alpius Toam, said that of the many local entrepreneurs involved in the process of building and rehabilitating residents' houses, some are really serious about their work and some are careless. .

That is, those who are serious about working are those who really understand and carry out their profession as entrepreneurs well.

"We have written to those who did not work well and also gave warnings, those who did well must be recorded and there will be rewards for work in the future, meaning that there is trust because it is proven," he said.
