The chairman of the Asmat DPRD, Yoel Mhargarou expressed the great desire of the community regarding the acceleration of the expansion of the South Papua Province (PPS).
This desire is aimed at accelerating and equitable development in the southern region of Papua, so as to create community welfare in line with increased support between the Regional Government and the Central Government.
In a meeting of leaders and members of the Asmat DPRD, Papua held a joint hearing which was attended by the Merauke DPRD ranks, Friday (25/2/2022), in the Asmat DPRD meeting room, Agats District, Yoel emphasized that the process for the expansion of the South Papua Province had been carried out for dozens of years. last year until now it is chaired by the Deputy Regent of Asmat, Thomas Eppe Safanpo.
“Let us unite our minds to form South Papua. Through South Papua, we believe that God will accompany our intentions," said Yoel.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Merauke DPRD, Beni Latumahina, likened the process of expanding the PPS to building a house.
The first thing that will be formed is the foundation which is the basis for forming the house itself. So it is necessary to gather to discuss the foundation of the house to be solid.
“In a power, namely communication, maybe from Asmat we will go to Mappi, then to Boven. We must fight together. Whether we realize it or not, we will become a history of fighting for the formation of South Papua," he said.
"We have great enthusiasm and determination, so don't slack off. Stay consistent to fight for this. We will plan how many seats, how many electoral districts, and we will discuss for the leaders who will take part in the 2024 elections," he added.

In fact, this process has been going on for quite some time. Where previously there were several DPRD decisions that were determined, namely the name of the province, the location of the province, to the coverage area.
"For the expansion, there are 4 regencies, and the budget for the expansion of the South Papua Province as well as our ability to face the implementation of the elections in 2024," he said.
To note, the hearing was held in order to capture the aspirations and desires of the community elements related to the acceleration of the process of expansion of the South Papua Province (PPS).
This activity was led by the Deputy Regent of Asmat, Thomas Eppe Safanpo as the Head of the PPS Expansion Team.
