The local government of Keerom has ensured that the program to turn Keerom into a food estate has been running and the planting of approximately three thousand hectares of corn will begin in April.
This was confirmed by Keerom Regent Piter Gusbager, SHut, MUP, together with Keerom Regional Secretary Trisiswanda Indra S.PT during a working visit to Yamara Village, Mennem District on Tuesday (15/2) afternoon. During the visit, Regent Gusbager also handed over a pickup truck and a corn sheller machine to the existing farmer groups.
Regent Gusbager emphasized that the Keerom Food Estate program is a program directly supported by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo through three ministries at once.
“So this is a long process so that corn is present in Keerom. This is a big opportunity for Keerom because 3 ministries will be present to make corn a success here,” he said.
The regent, who is a native son of Keerom, also asked the community to fully support the program because the central government will at least disburse Rp 200 billion for land clearing, which will be concentrated in Mennem and East Arso Districts.
"This is our opportunity, because the fertile land of Keerom is our gold, so it is estimated that in April, we will start taking action towards a corn food estate," he said again.
As for the delivery of the car and the corn sheller machine. The Regent requested that it be used according to its designation so that it could boost the people's economy in Keerom Regency through existing farmer groups.
