Diplomat from Papua, Michael Manufandu said that the role of the press in Papua is very open, compared to 10 years ago.
This was expressed when giving a brief explanation regarding his views and expectations regarding press personnel in the commemoration of the 76th National Press Day, Wednesday (9/2/2022).
"Specifically in Papua, I read almost all media, indeed compared to 10 years ago, the role of the press is very open now," he admitted.
Recently, continued Michael, everyone has the right information and is able to be critical, so they know the press is not taking sides.
"I see the media trying to provide data and information, as well as analysis that can be used as a guide for many people," he said.
The former Indonesian Ambassador to Colombia, the 6th, explained that the role of the media today is as a force for renewal and increasing awareness of the nation and society.
"Because the various kinds of information that are processed are good, people are happy to read, and people can understand, so it is hoped that they can be applied to everyday life," he concluded.
From the government side, said Michael, an official can understand that criticism is constructive in the interests of the nation and the people.
"For government officials, the press has a very important role because the press is the third role in growing good and objective information in society towards quality democracy," said Michael.
The former mayor of Jayapura also said that based on his observations so far, according to him the press was very positive and made all parties proud.
"We hope that the press can provide quality colors, but also quality, and be able to provide good and useful information for development and further for the life of the nation and state," he hoped.
