This information is not a hoax or mere rumour. But it was conveyed directly by the son of the region who is also the Regent of Puncak, Willem Wandik. As regional head, Willem admitted that he could not be sure when his area would be safe from terrorist attacks.
Why? He said the armed groups, which have been referred to as Papuan terrorists, have their own leaders and groups. In each of these groups, he said, efforts to recruit members were continuously carried out.
“Even within this (armed) group, there are children up to their teens. Elementary and junior high school level who are already holding weapons, are looking for identity. These are the ones who are difficult to control and threaten us in the future," Willem explained through his release, Sunday (30/1/2022).
The Democrat Party politician admitted that so far he had done various ways. One of them is to do a compromise route, even a persuasive route. Methods like this have been carried out since Puncak Regency was still merged with Puncak Jaya Regency, until finally experiencing division 13 years ago.
"In fact, the persuasive route is very difficult to get to the safe Puncak Regency. I can only advise the public, ASN and anyone in this district to always be alert and alert in their activities," he said.
Willem also regrets that the terrorists' actions have again claimed victims with the death of 3 TNI soldiers from the YR 408/SBH Task Force. The three victims died after the security post located in Gome District, Puncak Regency, was brutally attacked on Thursday (27/1) at around 05.00 WIT.
Previously, the Papua Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D Fakhri asked the Puncak Regent to return to communicating with the attacking group. The goal is to prevent the armed conflict from recurring there.
"Yesterday I called the Regent of Puncak to immediately establish active communication, we ask them not to take stupid steps whose impact will be felt by the community," said Fakhiri.
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said that the government is currently taking a defensive approach. Why survive? Because this strategy prioritizes the safety of civilians. He considered, this strategy is much better to prevent community casualties.
